Today, Navis Engineering is an independent manufacturer of Dynamic Positioning Control Systems, Autopilots, and Joystick Control Systems. We are a team of over 40 highly educated specialists across two offices in Finland and Bulgaria, supported by a global network of dealers and service partners.
Our systems are running on more than 2,000 vessels worldwide across offshore, subsea, cruise, ferry, workboat, special purpose, and superyacht segments.
Every algorithm, every system, every line of control software is developed by our own R&D team – in-house, in Finland.

Why Navis
We are not afraid of difficult projects. Over three decades of work in vessel motion control has given our team something that cannot be acquired quickly: deep familiarity with what goes wrong, and why. Navis regularly takes on projects that other suppliers decline – unusual propulsion arrangements, vessels with waterjets, rare vessel types, and complex retrofits where the configuration has no standard solution. That experience is embedded in our engineering team and reflected in our reference list.
Remote support – wherever the vessel is. Most system tuning, calibration, and diagnostics can be handled remotely, eliminating the cost and delay of waiting for an engineer to travel onboard. For a vessel operating far from major ports, that difference is significant.
Local knowledge, globally. Navis actively trains dealer personnel and shipowner teams in system maintenance. Clients in distant regions do not depend on factory engineers. For every issue the knowledge is already there, on the ground.
Built in Finland
All core R&D, proprietary algorithms, and engineering work are developed in Finland.
Navis Engineering holds the Avainlippu – the Finnish Key Flag certification – awarded to products genuinely made in Finland. It is a mark of origin and a statement of accountability: the engineering that runs on vessels worldwide is designed, developed, and owned here.
There is a Finnish concept – sisu – that describes the willingness to push through difficulty when the easier path is to walk away. In the projects where other suppliers stepped back, it is what kept Navis at the table. Navis Engineering has built much of its reference portfolio by saying yes to projects that others consider too complex.
Our systems are certified by leading classification societies and developed in accordance with international maritime standards. Our clients range from independent shipowners upgrading existing vessels to shipyards building specialised fleets. What they have in common is that they needed a partner who would engage with the actual problem – not route them through a standard catalogue.
